#3667 : Penance for mother by son. (Var.) The King of Egypt dies while his only son is still a child and barons seize the kingdom. The Queen invokes the aid of demons, twelve of whom come to her as handsome youths and persuade her to renounce the Trinity and the Virgin and to sign a charter with her blood; she regains the kingdom and, fulfilling her pact, expels the clergy and destroys the churches. Her son, doing penance for her, brings her to repentance. He goes to the Pope and asks him to forgive her mother if a stick which he has planted in the ground bears fruit; it does so after a year.
