#2318 : God as security. God as security; the abbot pays. A young man is ransomed by giving God as security. He fails to return as agreed. The creditor sees a wealthy abbot, who says that he is a servant of God. He robs the abbot and when the young man finally appears he tells the latter that the debt is already paid by a servant of God. (See also: 2623, 3469). #2623 : Horse taken as ransom. A captive is allowed to return home, giving Christ as security for his ransom. He fails to return on the appointed day. The captor meets a monk riding on a fine horse. The monk describes himself as belonging to the family of Christ and the captor then seizes his horse in place of the ransom. (See also: 2318, 2797, 3469).
