  • #4081 : Restitution not made by son. On his deathbed, an oppressive nobleman is advised by his confessor to make full restitution. The nobleman says he will leave that to his son. After his death his son gathers together all whom his father had wronged, but dismayed by their number, he says, “If my father is in paradise I need make no amends for him; if in hell, nothing I can do will help him; if in purgatory, he will be released on the Day of judgment. Since I cannot satisfy of you all, I will not try to satisfy anyone.” H625 # 13. (© Frederic C. Tubach)
