(En.) Saint Thomas had a certain clerk named Master Alexander of Wales. After the martyrdom of the saint, Alexander went to Rome and sadly related to Pope Alexander before the full consistory how the aforesaid Saint Thomas, after he had made peace and concord, was murdered in his church at Canterbury. And the pope said to him, "Master, select whomsoever of the cardinals you would like, and I will send them with you to England with plenary power to correct, indeed to punish, this outrage." And so, he chose the two whom he thought the best. When they came to England, they accepted money from the king and disregarded the wrong done both to the martyr and the Church. When the two returned to Rome, Master Alexander also returned, and when he saw that the curia was very crowded, he exclaimed "Lord pope, I seek an audience." Then the pope ordered silence. The two miscreants were sitting in the consistory. And Alexander said, "Lord, I would like to make a small complaint. I chose those two men at the bidding of your holiness to go to England to avenge the blood of the martyr. Instead, they sold it !"

(Fr.) Saint Thomas avait un certain clerc nommé Maître Alexandre du Pays de Galles. Après le martyre du saint, Alexandre se rendit à Rome et raconta tristement au pape Alexandre, devant tout le consistoire, comment ledit saint Thomas, après avoir fait la paix et la concorde, avait été assassiné dans son église de Canterbury. Le pape lui dit : "Maître, choisissez parmi les cardinaux qui vous voulez, et je les enverrai avec vous en Angleterre avec le plein pouvoir de corriger, voire de punir, cet outrage. " Il choisit donc les deux cardinaux qu'il jugeait les meilleurs. Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent en Angleterre, ils acceptèrent l'argent du roi et ne tinrent pas compte du tort fait au martyr et à l'Église. Lorsque les deux hommes retournèrent à Rome, Maître Alexandre y retourna aussi, et lorsqu'il vit que la curie était très encombrée, il s'exclama : "Seigneur pape, je demande une audience." Le pape ordonna alors le silence. Les deux mauvais (cardinaux) étaient assis dans le consistoire. Alexandre dit : "Seigneur, je voudrais faire une petite réclamation. J'ai choisi ces deux hommes sur l'ordre de votre sainteté pour aller en Angleterre venger le sang du martyr. Au lieu de cela, ils l'ont vendu !"

Sanctus Thomas habebat quendam clericum nomine Magistrum Alexandrum Walensem. Hic post martirium eiusdem sancti Romam petiit, et Alexandro pape in pleno consistorio miserabiliter proposuit quomodo dictus sanctus Thomas, post pacem et concordiam factam, in ecclesia Cant' est occisus. Dixitque ei papa: "Magister. Elige quoscumque uolueris ex cardinalibus, mittamque eos tecum in Angliam cum plena potestate ad corrigendum, immo puniendum, tantum facinus." Elegit itaque duos quos putabat optimos. Qui uenientes in Angliam acceperunt a rege pecuniam, et tam martiris quam ecclesie dissimulauerunt iniuriam. Quibus Romam reuersis, reuersus est eciam dictus magister A, et cum curiam cerneret plenissimam, exclamauit: "Domine papa. Audientiam peto." Papa autem iussit silencium fieri. Sedebant autem hii duo nequam in consistorio. Dixitque Alexander: "Domine. Volo paruulam querimoniam facere. Elegi ad iussionem sanctitatis uestre illos duos ut in Angliam uenientes uindicarent sanguinem martiris. Ipsi autem uendiderunt."

Maître Alexandre Llewellyn était un membre éminent du cercle de Canterbury de l'archevêque Thomas. Il a servi de porte croix à Becket et l'a suivi en exil. Il est resté avec Becket jusqu'à la fin. Selon Frank Barlow il aurait été le premier à rapporter la nouvelle du meurtre de l'archevêque à la cour papale.
