SummaryRésuméZusammenfassungSommarioResumen:
(En.) The same count, while he was on a journey, was riding alone on horseback, lost in prayer. Christ, in the form of a certain pauper, blocked his way, but he asked for nothing, and on account of this, the pious count marveled. So the count said to him, "Man, why, when you are greatly in need, do you ask for nothing 'for God's sake'?" Christ replied to him, "Perhaps you would not give me what I seek, no matter how much I beg you." To these words, the count said, "Whatever you might venture to seek, in the name of Jesus Christ I will freely give it to you." Then he said to the count, "Give me the scarlet cloak that you are wearing." He immediately surrendered it to him. peaking ill wa ueen of France ay distributing es with him with After the count rode along for a little while, he was clothed in the selfsame cloak as before. He wondered at how this might be, and he said to himself: "He is wealthier than I and does not need my riches. I will turn back and pray that he might deign to give me the alms, for which I am in great need." And so, he fell at his feet. Christ said to him: "What do you want?" "Lord," he said, "give me a short life, and a happy release from this life." The Lord said to him: "Since you have granted to me what I wished, what you wish will come to pass for you. Thus, before a year goes by, you will come to me to receive life everlasting." And with these words, he vanished. After putting his affairs in order, the count departed this life within the same year.
(Fr.)
