Refert Jheronimus quod Epicurus licet in cibariis et delectationibus poneret summam beatitudinem, super omnes libros suos ymagines olerum et ciborum vilium depinxerat. Cumque requireretur ab eo causa, respondit quod sicut lumen candele extinguitur ex nimia habundancia cere, et oculi exciccantur per fumum et pulverem, et animalia gulose comedentia sicut sunt lupus et canis, et sic de aliis, faciebant fetus excecatos. Sic homines seipsos nutrientes vicio gule servientes, nunquam possunt ad perfectionem sciencie pervenire, sed lumen rationis excecatur in eis.
