Tercio est consolativa.

Legitur in Vita beati Pacomii quod cum orasset Deum ut ostenderet quales erant illi qui penitentiam compleverant in hac vita, vidit vallem profundissimam et cavernosam ad quam concurrebant multi et in qua aliqui jacebant prostrati, aliqui elevabantur de penis, aliqui clavis acutissimis infigebantur in membris. Et cum horribilia membra vidisset, affuit ei quedam domicella pulcerrima carbunculum portans in sinistra manu cartam cum novem lineis scriptam. Cum autem requireret que esset, respondit: "Ego sum penitentia contempta ab istis; et si me dilexissent in vita, pro brevi servicio expendivissem eos de tantis tormentis. Sed nunc ad eos veni cum carbunculo spei eternalis retributionis, et tibi ostendi cedulam ejus mandata continentem. "

In prima linea erat scriptum: "In omnibus obedite mandatis majorum.

In secunda scriptum erat: "Servite Domino in timore."

In tercia scriptum erat: "Pie et juste vivamus in hoc seculo."

In quarta scriptum erat: "Carnem mortificate."

In quinta: "Orationi vacate."

In sexta: "Superbiam vitate."

In septima: "Mutuam caritatem habete."

In octava: "De disciplina curate. "

In nona: "Linguas distrahentium fugite."

Et hec est litera vite et provocativa omnium ordinum angelorum. ” Tunc sanctus frequenter monebat ad majorem penitentiam.
