(Fr.) UN HOMME POURSUIVI PAR UNE LICORNE. Barlaam raconte à Josaphat que poursuivi par une licorne, un homme tomba dans une fosse. Au fond de cette fosse poussait un arbre près d’un puits très profond; un dragon crachant des flammes l’entourait et deux rats, un blanc et un noir, rongeaient ses racines. Quatre vipères étaient également là qui emplissaient la fosse d’un souffle mortifère. Accroché à une branche de l’arbre l’homme oublia le danger en goûtant aux fruits et ne fit pas attention à son ami qui venait le sauver. Il tomba dans la gueule du dragon qui le dévora.
