(Fr.) L’OMBRE DE LA CROIX. 1/ Il est utile de faire la pénitence imposée en confession. Un homme s’enfuyait devant ses ennemis sur un cheval noir. 2/ Comme on lui avait défendu en confession de franchir l’ombre de la croix, ne voulant pas la franchir, il retourna au devant de ses ennemis. 3/ Pour le récompenser de son obéissance, Dieu lui fit cette faveur que son cheval qui auparavant était noir devint tout blanc. 4/ C'est ainsi que ses ennemis le laissèrent passer sans le reconnaître.

After leaving the hermit’s cell, he is pursued by relatives of a man he has killed; he is captured and killed.
