(En.) A Jew and a heathen disputed about their religion. Satan disguised as a man decided in favour of the heathen, who tork all the money. The Jew overheard the discussion of this Satan with another, and he learned the means by which to cure the daughter of the Emperor and to find a spring of water and became rich. The heathen went to th same place and was killed by these three Shedim.( Gaster, p.59)

(Fr.) Un juif et un non-juif discutaient en chemin quelle était la meilleure des religions et décidèrent de demander l’avis des passants, mettant leurs possessions en jeu. Satan prit la forme d’un passant trois fois de suite, et donna raison au goy, qui s’empara de tout l’argent du juif. Ce dernier très abattu, passa la nuit dans des ruines, et entendit des démons raconter les méfaits de leur dernière journée. Il apprit ainsi comment guérir la fille de l’empereur et comment trouver une source d’eau là où elle était tarie et devint très riche. Rencontrant le goy qui l’avait ruiné, il lui raconta son histoire. Celui-ci voulut en profiter et se rendit au même endroit, mais les démons le tuèrent.

Le motif du juif qui entendit le conseil des diables se retrouve dans des exempla chrétiens, par exemple dans le Ci nous dit (éd. Blangez, 1979-1988), 250, 1-10. cf Tubach 1663.
