Tubach Frederic C., 1969. Index exemplorum. A Handbook of medieval religious tales, Helsinki.:
- #1931 : Executor, faithless, of Charlemagne’s knight. A knight fighting against the Saracens in Spain with the Emperor Charles, left at his death his horse to the poor, and appointed someone as his executor. The executor, however, kept the horse. The dead knight appeared to the executor telling him that the executor’s action had delayed his (the knight’s) ascent to heaven. The next day a flock of black crows seize the executor, raise him in the air and let him fall on a stone, breaking his neck.
