(En.) Simeon bar Johai sent his son to the college for the scholars to bless him. They said" What thou sowest thou shall not reap, thou shalt bring in and not carry out; thou shalt carry out and not bring in; thy house shall be destroyed but thy resting place shall be established; thy table shalt be troubled and thou shalt not see the new year." He thought that they had cursed him, but his father explained it to him. " Thou shalt have children and they shall not die; thy table shall be troubled by the children around it; thou shalt not see the new year, that is thy wife shall not die and thou marry another; thou shalt bring in daughters-in-law as brides and thy sons shall live; thou shalt marry thy daughters out and their husbands shall not die; thy house shall be destroyed, that means, this world, when thy resting place (hospice) in the world to come shall be established." (Gaster, p.87)

(Fr.) Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai envoya son fils à la maison d’étude pour que les rabbins le bénissent. Quand il revint, il lui demanda ce qu’ils lui avaient dit. Le fils répondit : " Au lieu de me bénir, ils m’ont maudit; ils m’ont dit’ tu ne récolteras pas ce que tu sèmes. Tu feras entrer et non pas sortir; tu feras sortir et non pas entrer; ta maison sera détruite, mais tu auras un lieu de repos.Ta table sera agitée et tu ne verras pas la nouvelle année." Son père lui expliqua alors la signification de ces paroles :" Tu auras des enfants et ils ne mourront pas. Ta table sera agitée à cause des enfants autour d’elle. Tu ne verras pas la nouvelle année, ce qui veut dire que ta femme ne mourra pas et que tu n’en épouseras pas une autre. Tu auras des brus et tes fils ne mourront pas. Tu marieras tes filles et leurs maris ne mourront pas.Ta maison, c’est-à-dire le monde d’en bas, sera détruite alors que tu seras dans ton lieu de repos qui est le monde futur ."
