Ad idem. Refert Barlaam quod quidam rex fecit fieri quatuor capsas, quarum duas coopertas auro scilicet undique fecit repleri fetidissimis cadaveribus mortuorum , alias autem duas pice et bitumine linitas fecit impleri inestimabilibus margaritis et cetera. Cunque multi fuissent, requisivit rex que illarum majoris esset valoris, omnes responderunt deauratas. Quibus rex ait: "Sciebam ego bene vos talia dicturos. Ut ergo vestram omnes agnoscatis stulticiam, volo quod omnes aperiantur. ” Et subito ex deauratis exhalavit fetor intolerabilis, sed ex aliis odor et splendor.
rex ille est Deus, capse deaurate sunt principes et divites vite fetidissimi, capse pice linite sunt pauperes qui fetidis induti vestibus interiorem animarum servant pulcritudinem.
