Clericus debet habere ad hoc quod sit perfectus consequentes conditiones. Primo enim debet esse virtuosus.

Refert Mercurius quod quidam philosophus fuit nomine Plotinus, qui sic erat ornatus virtutibus ut non solum verbo doceret, nec alieno ostendebat exemplo, sed proprie virtutis ymaginem ostendebat, ut ergo clerici normam virtutis in eo aspicerent. Locum quietis elegit separatum ab omni conversatione humana. Unde hic omnibus clericis ramum cum tribus virgulis offerebat. Prima virgula rami dabat intelligere, ut sicut erat designatus determinato signo sic virtutibus prepolleret. Secunda virgula rami signabat ut ad illos anhelaret honores quos amor perfecte sciencie et sapiencie conferebat. Tercia ramunculi virgula significabat ut illis diviciis clericus intenderet, quibus animus ornatus posset auctorem proprie originis invenire.
