(En.) R. Shela beat a man who commited sin with a heathen. He was denounced to the king, but he escaped punishment and obtained a high position through his interpretation of the words:" Thine, O Lord is the greatness etc? " as`meaning that He had given power and judgment to earthly kings for they are called upon to sit in judgment.(Gaster, p.64)

(Fr.) Rabbi Chela, ayant surpris un juif forniquant avec une païenne, se mit à le battre. Il fut dénoncé au roi. Mais lorsqu’il dit : " A toi appartient la grandeur, et soit bénie ta Royauté qui est pleine de clémence" , le roi pensa qu’il s’agissait de lui, le libéra et lui accorda même une haute position au sein du royaume. Le juif qu’il avait attaqué le rencontra par hasard et l’accusa de mensonge, mais un objet de fer tomba du ciel et le tua.
